The Institute of Geosciences offers the position of a
Geologist / Geophysicist (m/f/d)
in the frame of the DFG-funded project "Identifying past seismic activity in the Alps" on 1st February 2021.
Your tasks:
- Field work and sampling of fault-related rocks along the Periadriatic Fault system in the Alps (Italy, Austria, Slovenia)
- Sample preparation and dating using methods of luminescence and electron spin resonance at the partner institution LIAG HannoverExterner Link
- Evaluation and presentation of the results at scientific meetings
- Publication of the scientific results within the framework of your own doctoral thesis
Your profile:
- successfully completed Master's degree in Earth Sciences
- Enthusiasm in field work and experience in geological mapping
- Interest in rock deformation processes and active tectonics
- Prior knowledge in structural geology, tectonics and polarisation microscopy
- Willingness to learn methods of luminescence and electron spin resonance dating
- Driving licence desirable (category B or equivalent)
We offer:
- Participation in the DFG-funded priority programme "Mountain Building Processes in 4DExterner Link" and the international AlpArray InitiativeExterner Link on the deep structures of the Alps
- Collaboration in the experimental development of an innovative dating method in an interdisciplinary team at the interface of tectonics and geochronology
- salary in accordance with the terms of the collective agreement for the public sector of the Federal States (TV-L) in accordance with personal qualifications up to salary scale E13,

The advertised position is limited to a period of 3 years. It is a part-time job of 75% (30 hours per week). Applicants are expected to work on a doctoral thesis within the frame of the project.
