Forschungsinteressen

Ich erforsche die Deformation der Kruste und starke Erdbeben, hauptsächlich mit Methoden der Geophysik, der Erdbeben-Geologie und der Fernerkundung. Meine Schwerpunkte sind Paläoseismologie und tektonische Geomorphologie.

Extensionssysteme habe ich in Deutschland, den USA, Spanien, Peru und Griechenland untersucht, Kollisionstektonik und Blattverschiebungen in Zentralasien und den Alpen. Ich interessiere mich darüber hinaus für Tsunamis, Erdrutsche und andere Erdbebenproxies und für die Anwendung von Geophysik in der Archäologie.

Seit Dezember 2023 forsche ich zur Karibisch-Nordamerikanischen Plattengrenze in Guatemala im Rahmen eines DFG-ProjektesExterner Link. Ich blogge über Paläoseismologie und aktive Tektonik auf www.paleoseismicity.orgExterner Link.
